DON’T BE SIDELINED BY HIP OR KNEE PAIN

STRAITH HOSPITAL LAUNCHES AN ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY DEPARTMENT
Straith Hospital for Special Surgery has roots dating back to 1952. The hospital, located at 23901 Lahser Road in Southfield since 1973 has a storied history of offering specialty surgery in podiatry, ophthalmology and pain management. Now the hospital is proud to announce the addition of an Orthopedic Surgery Department with offices for appointments at the hospital and a wide range of orthopedic procedures, including knee and hip replacement.
Leading the department is Roland J. Brandt, DO, FAOAO, FAAOS. Dr. Brandt brings 38 years of Orthopedic Excellence to southeastern Michigan and Canada. “I’m excited and proud to be part of a quality driven program and to be working with a hospital that is committed to excellence and patient satisfaction”.
In establishing a first-class orthopedic program, Straith Hospital appreciated the value of purchasing the Stryker Mako robot. Dr. Brandt has extensive experience in the Stryker Mako® Robotic- Arm Assisted Partial Knee and Total Knee and Total Hip Joint Replacement Surgery. Using 3D virtual modeling and robotic arm precision, Dr. Brandt enables you to have a more predictable surgical experience. By preserving more of your bone and protecting your soft tissue and ligaments from further damage, Brandt can execute your surgical plan more accurately.
In clinical studies, patients experienced much less pain in the days and weeks following surgery than those who had conventional (not robotic-assisted) joint replacement.
“I have been performing the ground- breaking robotic orthopedic surgery since 2012.” Due to his proficiency in robotic surgery, he began training surgeons from around the country to use this cutting- edge technology.
“Mako surgery revolutionizes the way we do partial knee, total hip and total knee replacements. I am able to preserve more bone and protect your soft tissue and ligaments. With less pain after surgery, you will have a faster recovery which translates to a better outcome for you”.

Not everyone requires surgical treatment of their arthritic joint says Dr. Brandt. “We offer a variety of non-surgical options to help you avoid surgery”. For those suffering from painful arthritis of the knee or hip, the team at SHSS is able to personalize a treatment plan of both non- surgical and if needed, partial knee, total knee, or total hip replacement.
Dr. Brandt also treats other musculoskeletal problems including sports injuries, rotator cuff tears of the shoulder, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow and fractured bones. Carpal tunnel treatment, and other wrist issues are routinely treated as well. Additionally, Brandt performs arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, alleviating pain, swelling, and stiffness for patients.
“My goal is simple, to get you back to doing what you like to do and enjoying your life. I am committed to you in every way. You will never wait more than 24- 48 hours to see me! Your time is just as valuable as mine.” says Dr. Brandt. “If you are having knee or hip pain or are in need of a second opinion regarding joint replacement, or just need a musculoskeletal problem diagnosed and treated conservatively or with surgery, call my office today and I may see you today, but definitely tomorrow, Monday through Friday.”
Not only does Straith offer cutting edge Mako® Robotic- Arm Assisted Technology procedures, but also offers the state-of-the-art Arthrex Synergy 4K Video System for Arthroscopic Surgery. “This technology is really taking orthopedics to the next level, adds Dr. Brandt. “You will receive great patient care in my clinic from our staff beginning when you walk through the front door until the time you leave. As a small single-story hospital, we have a more intimate environment with close parking, a clean facility, and no sick patients in the hospital, so you get the care and attention you need in a safe, efficient, and friendly environment. That’s our commitment to you” said the orthopedic surgeon.
