As a young girl, Dr. Nadine Jennings loved math and science. I could spend all day finding X,” she said. “I was never into history.”  She grew up in Southfield with a family history of doctors where the dinner conversation often turned to medical- focused topics like gall bladders; clearly the medical field was a natural for Dr. Jennings.

Today, Dr. Jennings is the Medical Director of Straith Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. “We treat pain and weakness problems as well as manage chronic pain,” she said. “We also treat the brain, stroke patients and closed head injuries. We focus on a supportive program for each individualized patient.” Dr. Jennings relies on diagnostic testing to assess headaches, spinal pain, neck pain, back pain, carpal tunnel issues, joint pain, walking difficulties, gait difficulties, and post-surgical pain.  “For  example, stroke patients get tightness on the side of the body that is affected,” she said.

“The care I have received from Dr. Jennings and the Inpatient Rehab at Straith is beyond reproach! Everyone is so caring, concerned and compassionate! I am so grateful and blessed to be at this hidden gem! I would be so comfortable sending any of my loved ones here.” ~ Lynn

She provides very creative solutions to treat all of these painful symptoms. Most people probably don’t know that Botox injections can be used to treat migraines. “Some of the newer medications we provide are extremely effective,” Dr. Jennings said. “There are remedies in the pipeline to help manage chronic pain that are very exciting. We at Straith have a lot to offer; our techniques in evidence-based medicine have significantly improved patient care and we strive to provide the latest advancements in technology.”

Dr. Jennings maintains that building relationships with patients with a multi-disciplinary approach is important. Some of her patients have been with her for over 20 years. “That is the best part,” she said.

The pandemic has created new problems and previous or new patients may be hesitant about returning to a hospital for treatments. “People are still anxious and that affects their pain too,” Dr. Jennings said.

“Everyone is impacted by COVID,” she said. “Straith Hospital is very good and very safe. Masks are the new normal. You can feel very certain that CDC protocols will be followed by myself as well as all of our caring providers at Straith Hospital.”

Dr. Jennings hopes to see her family tradition of medical excellence and compassion continue. Two of her four children plan careers in the medical field. “There is opportunity out there; it doesn’t matter what gender you are,” she said. “If you enjoy math and sciences, keep pursuing them.”
