Straith Hospital for Special Surgery originated with the late Dr. Claire Straith’s desire to provide the community with high-quality surgical care at a reasonable cost for the patient. The Hospital opened its doors in 1952 at its original Churchill and West Grand Boulevard location in Detroit as Straith Memorial Hospital, a surgery specialty Hospital. Straith Memorial Hospital relocated to its present location in Southfield in 1973 and was renamed Straith Hospital for Special Surgery in 1987.
Straith Hospital is a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Michigan and licensed by the State of Michigan. Straith Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
About Straith Behavioral Health:
Straith Behavioral Health was established within the hospital in 2024 to create a space for high quality ABA services in collaboration with various other therapeutic and health services provided within he hospital.
As a recipient of a 19.1 million dollar grant from the Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA) in 2024, Straith Hospital is dedicated to high-quality care. With partnership and collaboration with The Autism Alliance of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Oakland University, and Rutgers University, we strive to engage in research to ensure program integrity and advancements in understanding challenging behavior. As a foundation in program development, The Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta Georgia has provided Straith with research and guidance.
