What is ABA Therapy?
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a therapy built around the process of behavior change. It is a scientific and evidence-based approach that has minimized the deficits associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ABA therapy can help promote independence and improve socialization, self-advocacy, and other developmental milestones.
Intensive Behavioral Support
ABA is considered the best practice for working with patients in our program. We utilize a functional behavioral assessment to understand the challenging behavior and preference assessments to identify preferred items or activities. The intensive behavioral support program focuses on new skills that function as a replacement for challenging behavior. Intensive parent training following the behavior skills training model (BST) is essential to lasting outcomes for our patients.
About Our Program:
Through the integration of specialized behavioral and pharmacological interventions, combined with a data-driven methodology, we develop targeted strategies to reduce undesired behaviors and promote more functionally appropriate ones. Our approach emphasizes advanced training in applied behavior analysis (ABA) to ensure the highest quality of intervention.
Understanding the complexity of the behavior on an individualized approach, through the principles of ABA, we teach replacement behaviors to challenging behaviors. Our goal is for our patients to be successful in the least restrictive environment supported by advanced family training for continued management and prevention.
This program encompasses a multidisciplinary team, including behavior analysts, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other specialists, to address these complex behaviors comprehensively. The goal is to improve the child’s quality of life by reducing harmful behaviors and promoting positive skills and development.
Here at Straith Behavioral Health, we see it as a privilege to work with families and their children during this crisis. We recognize that some interventions require more intensive services to understand the concern, maintain the safety of everyone involved, and implement an effective intervention.

After receiving an autism diagnosis from a licensed professional and a referral from a psychologist or primary care physician, we begin the assessment process. The assessment process includes customization for your child’s specific needs. We use developmental tools appropriate for your child’s age and collaborate with families and other care providers to create individualized goals.
Assessment Activities:
- Records review and coordination of care with an interdisciplinary team
- Client and/or caregiver interview
- Questionnaires and direct assessments
- Direct observation of behavior across settings
Depending on your child’s specific needs and your chosen program model (early intervention, adolescent ABA therapy, specialty services), you can expect an inclusive, compassionate, and collaborative approach to the assessment and development of goals for your child’s plan.
Direct services are provided by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) that provide interactive and hands-on activities that incorporate your child’s specific goals. Your child’s goals may include the following domains: Foundational milestones, communication, socialization activities, play & leisure, behavior, emotional development, Independence & autonomy, school readiness, transition planning for adulthood, vocational skills, safety skills, family relations, and/or executive functioning development.
Your child’s assessment, program development, and ongoing evaluation will be overseen by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Direct services are provided by RBTs that will implement programs daily with your child while collecting data to ensure continuous progress and achievement of goals.
